Biography

Joyce Coker is a researcher in at the Cambridge Engineering Design Centre. She has a background in Human Physiology and Public Health. Her research spans both UK-based and international work, connected by a common thread: understanding social connection, the changing ways people relate to one another in an increasingly digital and mobile world, and how these shape people’s mental health and wellbeing. Joyce’ s research interests mainly centre around: (i) the complexities of the migration journeys of healthcare professionals (specifically those from Nigerian and Ghanaian backgrounds), (ii) ways of fostering equity in the movement of healthcare workers, and (iii) the use of community resources to support the mental health and wellbeing of adults from minority ethnic backgrounds and older adults living in the community. Joyce is also the current coordinator of the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR), School of Public Health Research (SPHR), Public Mental Health programme.
