Rob Bracewell has been a member of the EDC since January 1997. His current research concerns Embodiment Generation and Virtual Prototyping of mechanical systems, conducted within the Design Synthesis theme. To support this work, he has designed a flexible, integrating high level software development platform, which is in use in this and other projects within the EDC. This has been assembled using proven third party software tools including CLIPS, Tcl/Tk, Tclhttpd, Mesa, SWIG, MetaCard, Dymola and f2c.

An Engineering graduate of Cambridge University, he previously worked for 13 years at Lancaster University, researching in the fields of Engineering Design, Mechatronics and the application of AI technology to both product and design process. His PhD concerns the conceptual and embodiment design of Ocean Wave Energy Converters. Latterly, he was a founder member, Senior Researcher and Computer Systems Manager of Lancaster EDC, where he had prime responsibility for the design and software implementation of the 'Schemebuilder' computer-aided conceptual design methodology.
