Dr. Pradipta Biswas

I am a Research Fellow at Wolfson College and Senior Research Associate at Engineering Design Centre of University of Cambridge. Previously I was a Research Associate at Trinity Hall. I completed PhD in Computer Science at the Rainbow Group of University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory and Trinity College in 2010 and was awarded a Gates-Cambridge Scholarship in 2006. I previously undertook a first degree in Information Technology at the University of Kalyani and a master degree at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.

My research addresses extreme human machine interaction ranging from investigating interaction issues for people with severe physical impairment to proposing new interfaces and interaction techniques for Eurofighter Typhoon pilots, where the context itself imposes situational impairment. My work involves developing user model and investigating new modalities of interaction involving eye-gaze, head-movement and hand-gesture. My research has been funded through EU FP7 program (EU GUIDE), EPSRC grant (IUATC Project) and British Aerospace Systems.

I am also a visiting professor at Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi, guest lecturer at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and a vice chairman of ITU-T Focus Group on Smart TV.

Besides academics, I am a keen rifle shooter and won gold medals in Imperial Shooting Meet from 2010 to 2013. I am currently the Senior Treasurer of Cambridge University Revolver and Pistol club and captain of Wolfson College Cricket Club. Earlier I was captain of Trinity College graduate cricket team and secretary of the Engineering Department cricket team.
