When does the Summer School start?

The Summer School will begin on the morning of the 27th, so please ensure you arrive by Sunday 26th August. Accommodation is provided for the Sunday night.

Registration & payment

Can I still register?

Registration is now closed.

The Summer School is now fully allocated, however registrations of interest remain welcome and will be added to a wait-list. Should we find additonal capacity, wait-listed registrants may be contacted and invited to attend.

How do I pay?

Invited participants will be contacted individually with payment instructions.

If you have not received payment information, and believe you have been allocated a place, please contact us.

To benefit from these advertised special discounted rates, please ensure you are an ACM SIGCHI member. Membership is available for just $19 USD for students, and $55 USD for professionals.

When must I register by?

To secure your place, registration and payment must be completed before 8th July 2018 (unless othewise stated in your invitation).

What is included?

Your registration fee includes accommodation at Trinity College, tuition, and breakfast and lunches.

Accommodation & check-in

When does the Summer School start?

The Summer School will begin on the morning of the 27th. Please ensure you arrive by Sunday 26th August. Accommodation is provided for the Sunday night.

What accommodation is provided?

All participants will be allocated single-person rooms with shared shower and toilet facilities at Burrell's Field, Trinity College.

Where do I go?

Accomodation is provided at Burrell's Field, Trinity College. Please check in at the Burrell's Field Porters Lodge.

Summer School sessions, and catered meals, are in Lecture Room 4 (LR4) at the Department of Engineering. Breakfast is avaliable at 8:30 AM and a group walk will depart from the Burrell's Field Porters Lodge at 8:00 AM.

When can I check-in to my room?

Room check-in will be in the afternoon on Sunday 26th August 2018 and check-out will be in the morning on Saturday 1st September 2018.

Please note that no overnight stay is provided for the evening 1st September 2018.

The accommodation is staffed 24 hours and you may check-in at any time after 14:00 on Sunday 26th August. Check-out time is by 10:00 on Saturday 1st September.

Are linen and toiletaries provided?

Bed linen, towels and basic toiletries are provided. However, we recommend you bring your own shampoo, soap, etc.

When (and where) is breakfast?

Breakfast is avaliable at 8:30 AM in Lecture Room 4 (LR4) at the Department of Engineering. A group walk will depart from the Burrell's Field Porters Lodge at 8:00 AM.

When must I check-out?

Check-out time is by 10:00 on Saturday 1st September.

Please note that no overnight stay is provided for the evening 1st September 2018.

Are there gym facilities at the accommodation?

Unfortunately, there are no gym facilities available at the accommodation for guests.

The Kelsey Kerridge Sports Centre offers non-member daily rates for visitors. More information is available from their FAQ on their website.

Technical

Do I need to bring anything?

Students are requested to bring a laptop to engage in the interactive portions of the school.

Do I need to install any software?

To fully participate in the Summer School it is essential to bring a laptop or notebook computer with Anaconda Python 2.7 installed.

Please see the comprehensive install guide which includes details of several additional Python packages you will require.

What Internet and network access will be available?

Internet and network access is provided using eduroam.

Please ensure you have configured eduroam wireless networking at your home institution before leaving.

We will be unable to assist with eduroam configuration on arrival.

What power outlets and plugs does the UK use?

Please note that the UK uses BS 1363 Type G outlets and plugs, which run at the nominal European standard of 230V AC, 50 Hz.

Please ensure you bring an appropriate adapter as we will be unable to offer adapters on arrival.

Do you have a Slack workspace?

Please find the invitation to the Slack workspace in your email. If you are unable to find this, please contact jtj21@cam.ac.uk for an invitation.

Schedule

When does the Summer School start?

Is the full schedule available?

The full schedule is still being finalised, further information will be provided nearer the date.

What time will the Summer School close?

Full-day activities are planned for Monday to Friday.

On Saturday 1st Septmber 2018, the summer school will close after lunch to allow for particpants to make their journeys home.

What activities are planned for the final day?

In previous years the Summer School has closed with a full-day hackathon.

Other questions

Can you asssist with a visa application?

While we are unable to advise on visa requirements, where needed, we are happy to supply visa support letters.

If you require a visa support letter please ensure you have registered for the Summer School first, and contact us as soon as possible.

What if I have dietary or mobility requirements?

Please advise us of any dietary or mobility requirements as part of the registration process. We will endeavour to accomodate such requirements where we have been notified in advance.

Will I need to wear a suit or bring other special clothing?

There is no dress code for the Summer School or for any of the planned social events.

Do I need to bring anything?

Students are requested to bring a laptop to engage in the interactive portions of the school.

Do I need to prepare anything else?

Please provide a one-minute, one-slide introduction about yourself and your research for the introductory session.
