An Online Toolkit for Use in Design for All Education

Joy Goodman-Deane, Sam Waller, P John Clarkson, Patrick M Langdon

Abstract

This paper describes an online inclusive design toolkit that can be used in Design for All education. We describe the parts of the toolkit, which variously describe and motivate inclusive design, describe an inclusive design process, and provide a range of practical resources to support inclusive design projects. These resources include a family of personas, and simulators that demonstrate some of the main effects of common vision and hearing impairments. There is also an exclusion calculator that enables students to evaluate how many adults in the UK would be excluded from using a particular design. The toolkit is available at http://www.inclusivedesigntoolkit.com.
