IDBE Assistant Director and Researcher at the Engineering Design Centre, University of Cambridge. Post-Doctoral Associate at Clare Hall. Architect with practical experience in design and project management. Holds a PhD in Architecture from the University of Sydney. Research interests focus on decision making, knowledge management and reasoning in design. Works closely with a number of Australian and UK AEC companies and has (in collaboration with the CSIRO and KCDC), previously implemented and introduced in to practice design and facilities management decision support systems. Author of book chapters, journal articles and conference papers in the fields of design computing, artificial intelligence, computer-aided design, and design cognition. Recipient of excellence awards including Sydney University’s International Visiting Research Fellowship and is a member of review committees for numerous journals related to design science, artificial intelligence and engineering design.

Specific research interests include: - Coevolution and interconnections of design decision networks; - Stakeholder salience and strategy as an instrumental theory of temporary project-from organisations; - Decision process behaviours across design and delivery stages; - Inter-personal and inter-organisational communication in AEC projects; - Understanding resource-based and market-based viewpoints of complex product development with socio-political levels; - Diffusion of innovation in new product development; - Sustainable development and design management.

Research Interests

  • Management of design practice and support of decision processes
  • Interface between design and construction/ manufacture
  • Architectural and Engineering technology
  • Learning across Business Sectors
