Thomas Jun joined the EDC in October 2003 and completed his PhD in 2007 under the supervision of Professor John Clarkson and Dr James Ward - "Design for patient safety: a systematic evaluation of process modelling approaches for healthcare system safety improvement." He then worked on a five-UK university collaborative project - "Research Into Global Healthcare Tools (RIGHT) : developing a modelling and simulation method selection framework for healthcare decision making." Then he was involved in a mental health service delivery improvement project in collaboration with the Judge Business School, Psychiatry and Public Health Departments in the University of Cambridge.

Before starting his PhD, he worked in Samsung Electronics for six years (1997/2003). In Samsung, he worked as an internal innovative design consultant and instructor specialising in TRIZ (Russian acronym for "Theory of Inventive Problem Solving"). He was involved in several projects on product innovation and process improvement: semiconductor process improvement, product innovation of inkjet and laser printers, hard disk drives, air conditioners, refrigerators, etc.

Thomas's research interests are in applying design thinking and systems thinking approaches to service planning and complex product design. He has moved to Loughborough Design School, Loughborough University as a lecturer.
