Events of the Modelling & Management of Engineering Processes SIG
The SIG holds a half-day or full-day workshop meeting as a regular feature of the DESIGN (http://www.designconference.org/) series of conferences.
As agreed at the SIG Workshop held under the auspices of the DESIGN 2008 conference, a biennial series of conferences focused on the topics of this Special Interest Group is to be established. The first of these conferences was held in Cambridge, United Kingdom, from 19th July 2010 to 20th July 2010. On the 21st July 2010, we held the Kick-off Meeting European Learning Group on Engineering Process Management. For full details about the conference and for details about the 2012 conference as they become available, please visit the MMEP conference website
Next SIG MMEP Workshop
The next SIG MMEP workshop will be held at the ICED 2011 Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark
See SIG Meeting 2011 for the agenda and further details.
Past Workshops
The SIG has held meetings previously at ICED05 Melbourne (Australia), at DESIGN 2006 at Dubrovnik (Croatia), and at ICED 2007 (Paris). It has also held a meeting at the 6th International Workshop on Integrated Product Development 2006 in Bad Salzelmen/Magdeburg (Germany) in cooperation with Magdeburg University (with 23 participants from 8 countries)
SIG Workshop at DESIGN 2010 - Monday May 17th, 2010 - Dubrovnik, Croatia
"Practical Challenges to Research on Process Management and Modelling"
See SIG Meeting 2010 for a full description of the event.
SIG Workshop at ICED '07 - Wednesday, August 26th, 2009 - Stanford, USA
"Road mapping the future research in Modeling and Management of Engineering Processes"
The workshop at the ICED 07 was focused on reporting the results from three industry workshops held at the EDC, Cambridge, KTH, Stockholm and TUM, Munich about "Road mapping the future research in Modeling and Management of Engineering Processes" to the SIG Members.
In March 2009 the mentioned partners held three industry workshops, in Germany, Sweden and the UK at which a total of 39 practitioners from 27 companies representing eleven different industries - Aerospace, Automotive, Engineering, Telecommunication, Consumer Goods, Medical devices and Healthcare - contributed to a future research roadmap by presenting their current practice as well as their most important challenges and requirements about modelling and management of processes.
The main topics addressed during the workshops were grouped under four headlines: (a) Understanding modelling processes about concepts and terms, approaches and purposes of models in practice; (b) Managing modelling processes about how to create, use, disseminate, implement, maintain, improve and change models; (c) Exploiting modelling processes about future expectations, potential for innovation and risks; (d) Road mapping of future research topics.
The workshop series has been evaluated by the three academic partners and the results with a proposal for a roadmap for future research will be presented. The aim of the ICED 07 workshop was to present and discuss the outcome of the industry workshops with the design community and elicit further input from academia.
About 36 participants from around the world discussed in three breakout sessions the results and contributed to the research roadmap.
The result from these workshops with industry and academia has been published and is available from the EDC:

SIG Workshop at DESIGN 2008 - Monday, May 19th, 2008 - Dubrovnik, Croatia
"Aims and future activities of the SIG Modeling and Management of Engineering Processes"
The SIG Workshop at DESIGN 2008 started with presentations about SIG Research Topics from Cambridge, Munich and Stockholm. These presentations were aimed to kick off the discussion about the objective of the SIG and their future activities.
28 members participated in the discussion which was facilitated and documented by the EDC. Another 12 members were unable to attend but showed their interest in future activities.
The members brainstormed about the aims, goals and future activities of the SIG. The outcome of this workshop has given the impluse to set-up this new SIG website and the following activities.
