Work Package 4: Integrating Activities
WP4 is concerned with the intellectual co-ordination of the work of the project, and with exploring issues that are common across the project. This integration activity has two main purposes. Firstly, it is intended to develop the cross-cutting themes that touch upon all of the project's research domains and to ensure that the interim outputs of each WP are captured and used to inform an emergent joint understanding. Secondly, it is intended to ensure that the emerging big picture, and associated developments in industrial practice, influence the direction of individual WPs. It will do this by the co-ordination and integration of the outputs of the other work packages. The principal participants in WP4 will be the leaders of the work packages and the Project Manager, working together with the Task leaders, but all the research partners and industrial collaborators will contribute to this work package, which will run throughout the three years of the project. The work package will be divided into two tasks, the first focused on establishment of an overall intellectual framework for the activities of the project and development of cross-project themes, and the second focused on integration of emergent findings from the research activities. Activities will involve examining outputs of tasks; collecting and organising observations and feeding back findings to other work packages, conducting short focused inter-partner research programmes in specific areas of shared interest, and coordinating the delivery of the output of the project.
The deliverables of WP4 will be a coordinating framework for the project, approaches to cross-theme issues (in particular agreed methodological/implementational approaches), theoretical underpinnings for the project and integrating elements in the research output. In particular WP4 will create a number of integrated exemplar scenarios as the results from the other tasks emerge. These scenarios will be populated with case data from the collaborators so that the emerging big picture can be made clear.
