Designing Inclusive Futures
There is a need to explore the issues and practicalities that lie behind design that intends to extend our active lives in a coherent way. This contains design for inclusion in every day life at home and at workplace, and for products to be used in these contexts. Inclusive design extends the definition of product users to include people who are excluded by disability and rapidly changing technology. It prioritises the role of impairment and disability in the development of new products and services. This book was stimulated by the 4th CWUAAT workshop (the CWUAAT workshops have a general focus on product and solution development). It was held in Cambridge, UK in April 2008. Contributions from leading researchers in the fields of inclusive design, ergonomics, universal access and assistive and rehabilitative technology, focused on the following themes: understanding users, inclusive design, computer access and new technologies, assistive technology and inclusive environments.
